House in Pimlico London

House in Pimlico London

An elegant stucco-fronted 1830’s house in Pimlico had fallen into disrepair when Nick Eldridge was commissioned by a friend to transform this derelict property into her new London home. The existing 3-storey house had been divided into a sequence of small rooms accessed from a dark, winding staircase.

Eldridge London opened up the house to produce generous light-filled spaces on the two upper floors with two bedrooms at the lower level with new bathrooms built into the old vaults beneath the pavement. The new sculptural central staircase celebrates movement through the building and maintains a visual transparency with glass landings and balustrades. A new glazed opening cut through the back of the building from basement level to the roof floods the house with sunlight and new views are opened up to the green landscape of the rear gardens. Nick Eldridge also designed the kitchen units with sink and countertop in reclaimed teak as well as other built in furniture throughout the house. This detailed involvement in interior design and the design of bespoke products and furniture is a consistent feature of Eldridge London’s projects.
