Our Story
Originally founded in 1998 as Eldridge Smerin, and rebranded in 2015 to Eldridge London and Eldridge Newlyn, Eldridge Architects has been delivering extraordinary architecture for over 25 years.
The practice’s first project, The Lawns, in the Highgate Conservation Area was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize, establishing the studio’s reputation for designing homes of the highest quality.
The practice has since won numerous awards for its work including the Manser Medal, RIBA and Civic Trust awards, has won the BD Architect of the Year for one-off houses as well as being a finalist on four occasions, and is one of only a handful of firms to be a finalist in all three of the RIBA’s major national awards, the Stirling Prize, the House of the Year, and the Stephen Lawrence Award.
The majority of the practice’s projects are located in sensitive contexts, yet maintain a bold contemporary presence. We have extensive experience in delivering remarkable architecture in Conservation Areas, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, World Heritage Sites, Grade listed buildings and Grade I listed landscapes.
Alongside our private residential work we have designed for a range of high profile commercial and cultural clients including the British Library, the Globe Theatre, BT, and Oppenheimer & Sons (de Beers)
Our two studios in London and Cornwall provide effective bases to cover sites across the south of the UK and internationally.
Clients can be assured of a personal, friendly approach to the design process. We foster long term relationships with clients and consultants which had led to many clients returning to us for repeat work over the years as their requirements of family and business change.
