About Us

Originally established in 1998 as Eldridge Smerin, and rebranded in 2015, Eldridge London has been delivering remarkable architecture for over 25 years.

The London studio has developed a particular reputation for extraordinary one-off houses, and has received numerous awards and accolades for these including from the RIBA, Civic Trust, British Homes Awards, Building Design Architect of the Year, and we are one of only a handful of practices to have been finalists in all three of the RIBA’s major architecture awards, The Stirling Prize, The RIBA House of the Year (formerly the Manser Medal), and the Stephen Lawrence Prize.

Our work challenges conventions and seeks to inspire and raise expectations as to what should be demanded of UK house design. We seek a deep understanding of the specific context of a site, often in a seemingly restrictive protected or conservation area environment, and then we use this to generate a truly unique design response which is contemporary and clearly of its time, whilst also highly attuned to its setting.

Our studio is based in Battersea, London, on the south bank of the River Thames, near to Clapham Junction station and the Plantation Wharf river boat stop. Our dual bases in London and Cornwall allow effective and efficient management of projects across London, the Home Counties, and the south coast, but we continue to work further afield across the UK and overseas.

We take particular satisfaction from the long term personal relationships that have developed with our clients, particularly those for whom we have designed homes. We have worked on multiple projects for a number of clients over the years as their families grow and personal requirements change, and we welcome enquiries from all clients who share an ambition to build something truly remarkable.
