About the studio
Eldridge Newlyn was established in 2015 to offer a different focus from the London office.
The Newlyn studio provides a location in the South West to explore the landscape and craft traditions of the region and focus on adapting historic and traditional structures with contemporary interventions to provide rich tactile environments for living.
Our studio is a physical demonstration of this approach – the renovation of a series of historic 200 year old granite barns with a soft natural material palette of refurbished fabric comprising lime plaster, oak beams and brick paviors; contrasted with large new glazed openings and precise birch ply elements acting as linings and furniture within the space.
Local materials such as Cornish granite, oak and douglas fir timbers were sourced to maintain a local character and authenticity, and established our on-going relationships with local suppliers.
The combination of a local Cornwall studio allied with an award winning track record of the highest quality architecture sets us apart from other design studios in the South West. We are able to draw on local and regional influences and traditions, whilst simultaneously being engaged in cutting edge architectural works in the London office. This combination provides a constant stimulation and informs the design work in both studios.
