Project overview
London
With one side facing the glorious sweep of the Sussex coastline, and the opposite street side facing an odd sub-urban landscape of post war chalet bungalows, this house plays upon the dichotomy it finds itself in. An abstract north facade of flush glass and corian presents a significant presence in the streetscape whilst acting as a screen or filter to the workings of the house within.
The south facade by contrast is fully glazed, with a series of projecting balconies extending beyond the building line providing a dynamic frontage, and offering solar shading to the glazing and interiors.
The main volume of the house is raised above the shingle landscape providing flood protection, greater privacy and improved views of the coast-line from a raised vantage point.
A series of different levels internally create generosity and interest whilst a timber lined master bedroom block appears to float above.
