Project overview
Devon
Off site fabrication has been used extensively in our projects to ensure precise workshop levels of quality for finishing elements. This proposal goes a step further as a complete off-site modular construction system.
A series of square blocks are connected via central nodes, and given variety through connecting balconies and splayed windows. The system can be extended from a single bedroom or home office module to a multi-module house over two levels.
The modules are raised off the ground using screw piles so that the system is adaptable to suit any terrain or topography, and can even work around existing tree roots and larger individual obstacles.
Each module is set out to coordinate with standard sizes of construction board at 1.2 x 2.4m and thereby provide exceptional material efficiency and minimal waste. Wall, ceiling and floor cassettes slot into a base and perimeter frame set over the screw piles and internal finishes and openings are all coordinated within the system grid.
The proposal was first exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Show and we have secured planning permission for a site in Devon.
