Project overview
Cornwall
eldridge newlyn was established in 2015 to focus on projects in the south-west of England, with the studio buildings completed in 2021. The practice converted three 200-year old granite barns to create a series of flexible spaces operating as a separate house and studio.
The buildings provide a physical demonstration of the practice’s approach to contemporary interventions within historic structures, with a muted palette of lime plaster, stone, brick paviors and plywood. New elements conceived of as precise timber ‘furniture’ provide a contemporary counterpoint to the more ‘characterful’ existing fabric which is repaired and exposed where possible.
The Cornwall studio is focussed on exploring cost effective, refined design solutions taking advantage of the region’s craft traditions.
