Project overview
London
A house for leading rare books dealer Bernard Shapero and his family, this project was a radical re-configuration of the existing derelict Victorian house, creating a new 3 storey glazed extension housing kitchen, playroom and master suite, and separated from the existing structure by a structurally glazed slot and a glass staircase.
By removing the stair from the existing building the interior volumes were transformed allowing for visual and physical connections across spaces and between floors.
The front of the house presents a deliberately abstract facade to the street, whilst the rear of the extension is fully glazed as a counterpoint to the heavy brickwork of the historic building.
A ramp leads from the glazed extension down to the rear garden which was designed by Jinny Blom.
