Lying within the Kent Downs National Landscape (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) in close proximity to the south coast, our client saw the opportunity to develop a unique country retreat within the estate of their Grade II Listed manor house.
By replacing a dilapidated asbestos barn we created a contemporary sanctuary with a series of holiday lets, a subterranean spa, a restaurant, and gallery to showcase the fine produce from local farms, and create a commercial and cultural focus drawing visitors to the local area.
Supported from the outset by the local Conservation Officer, he confirmed the design was ‘contemporary architecture of great sophistication and quality’ which ensured permission was granted for a quality building sufficient to reflect the prominent and visible position within the AONB.
